Global Urbanisation & Living Standards

The worldwide housing-and-living-conditions picture, in one clean Parquet - the global complement to our European/OECD house-price products (open house-price data barely exists for emerging markets, but the living-conditions layer does). Eight World Bank indicators: urban population share and growth, access to electricity, basic and safely-managed drinking water, basic sanitation, the share of the urban population living in slums, and primacy (share in the largest city) - per country per year since 2000, ~200 countries. The proptech, infrastructure, development and ESG lens on how the world is housed; joins to the country-profile products on ISO-3 code.

Safe to train on

Built only from a named, redistributable official source under a documented open licence - not scraped web data. No copyright grey zone, no personal data. Ships machine-readable Croissant metadata (ML Commons - loads in Hugging Face / Kaggle / Google), an AI training-licence manifest documenting source, licence and provenance for your model's data governance, and a machine-readable data dictionary (drop it into an agent / RAG prompt so the model knows every column) - all inspectable before you buy.

What's included

  • 8 indicators × ~200 countries × 2000-present - urbanisation, primacy + access to power/water/sanitation + slums
  • Worldwide housing-conditions layer (open EM house-price data barely exists - this is the proxy)
  • country (ISO3) × indicator × year; joins to global-country-profile on ISO-3
  • Source: World Bank Open Data (CC-BY-4.0) - fully redistributable

European Building Permits

The leading indicator of housing supply, in one clean Parquet: building permits lead completions by one to two years, so they tell you where the pipeline is filling or drying up long before the house-price and construction-output data move. Eurostat's permit index (sts_cobp_q, 2021=100, seasonally & calendar adjusted) for residential dwellings, residential floor area and non-residential floor area - quarterly, per country. The supply side our house-price, rent and affordability products imply but don't measure; developers, housing economists and REIT analysts read it to forecast the next turn in construction and prices.

European Construction Output

The building cycle in one clean Parquet: Eurostat's monthly construction production index (2021=100, seasonally adjusted) for every European country - total construction and the building vs civil-engineering split - one row per country × series × month since 2000. A leading read on housing supply, infrastructure spend and the construction economy; joins to house prices, macro and rates on country code.

European Construction Costs & Prices

The COST and PRICE side of European construction - the missing half of our construction-output (volume) product. Eurostat's construction cost index for new residential buildings (input costs: materials + labour) and the construction producer-price index (output prices), plus the annual inflation rate of each - quarterly, per country, one clean Parquet. Read alongside construction-output it separates a real building boom from pure cost inflation; developers use the cost-vs-price gap to model margin compression, and macro desks track it as a sticky component of core inflation. Captures the brutal 2021-23 materials-and-labour cost surge in full.
